Heartwood

Our DOPE 6 subvertising spread is Nick Hayes‘ illustration of a poem by Robert MacFarlane, installed in bus stops around Sheffield. Nick created the work in support of the campaign group Sheffield Tree Action Group (STAG), because:

5,500 of Sheffield’s street trees have been chopped down in the last five years – another 12,000 will go over the next 20 years.

Fuck Work

DOPE 5 covers and centre spread are by Josh MacPhee. They’re part of series he did for the recent Mai 68 anniversary, a modern take on the Atelier Populaire posters produced by students and workers in the Paris uprising of 1968.

Josh also wrote a brilliant article for this issue entitled Radical Posture, and his posters were placed in advertising spaces in London and New York, which featured in our subvertising spread.

Omnia Sunt Communia

”All property should be held in common (Omnia Sunt Communia) and should be distributed to each according to his needs, as the occasion required. Any prince, count, or lord who did not want to do this, after first being warned about it, should be beheaded or hanged”

Compulsory Purchase

Dr D put up these compulsory purchase orders on empty properties in Kensington and Chelsea that could be used to house survivors of the Grenfell tragedy (or any other survivors of the capitalism tragedy). We coupled it with a quote from Jeremy Corbyn MP, who rightly suggested these properties should be immediately requisitioned and put to good use. Wouldn’t want him to forget that if he ever gets into power.

Dr. D is London’s premier subvertiser.
